AFD grants and subsidies are destined for projects being carried out in what’s known as the “Least Developed Countries of the Priority Aid Solidarity Zone” or PSZ.  The PSZ is a group of countries that benefit from France's special, extra effort to assist them.

Grants and subsidies are made for the benefit of social sectors such as health and education, as well as infrastructure projects, such as bridges and roads, and projects related to urban and rural development, such as sanitation and power networks.

AFD assesses the quality and impact of projects financed by grants and subsidies with the same precision and in accordance with the same standards as projects financed by loans and other means.
