Peace and Justice

In January 2016, AFD integrated governance into its field of competence and now assists its partners in their political and citizen-based transition. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without peace, stability and the deployment of transparent and effective institutions all over the world. Our areas of action: public finance management, economic governance, State reforms, the rule of law, justice, migrations and the fight against human trafficking.

Promoting an enhanced public policy dialogue

Tribunal d'instance de Yopougon, Côte d'Ivoire

PROMOTING AN ENHANCED PUBLIC POLICY DIALOGUE

AFD supports forms of governance that promote dialogue and the participation of all stakeholders. We finance projects which build and structure “Commons”. We promote a participatory management and equitable access to these resources.

Building the capacities of institutions and supporting their development

BUILDING THE CAPACITIES OF INSTITUTIONS AND SUPPORTING THEIR DEVELOPMENT

In addition to financing, AFD provides its partners with technical assistance to develop new institutional regulations and implement public policies. We promote cooperation between our partners and the conclusion of sustainable agreements in the interest of the populations concerned.

Preventing crises by reducing vulnerabilities

PREVENTING CRISES BY REDUCING VULNERABILITIES

For AFD, good governance and social ties are inseparable priorities. In this respect, we work to reduce the risks of crisis upstream by supporting all actions which promote the economic, social, political and cultural inclusion of vulnerable populations and respect for their rights. During and after crises, we also take action to limit relapses and help our partners seize the opportunities for change offered by these moments of transition.
Finally, to take more effective action in the field and better respect the vision and expectations of our partners, we are constantly strengthening our analytical tools.
