    Lines of credit

ELCs provide partner banks with financial resources with conditions that allow them to finance more environmental investments. ELCs are often accompanied by technical assistance in order to promote the emergence of projects.

    The “energy management” target covers:

    • energy saving solutions: consumption and energy efficiency management by promoting low energy technologies (heat recovery, fuel substitution, regulation systems, thermal insulation for buildings, efficient air conditioning, efficient lighting, etc.)
    • renewable energy production (solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, biomass, etc.).

The “sustainable natural resource management” target more generally concerns all industrial or agricultural practices that may have a negative impact on the environment. The aim here is to support these actors, help them change their practices and minimize their environmental impacts (waste management/use, input management, water treatment/depollution, etc.).

In the summer of 2009, the portfolio of environmental lines of credit included partnerships with some twenty banks in about ten countries. Total commitments at the same date stand at some €500M and are rising sharply.
