On June 17th, 2009, the Central Bank of Mozambique and the French Development Agency signed a € 1.5 M financing agreement to support the shrimp farming development in Mozambique.

The financing agreement has been signed by Ernesto Gouveia Gove, Governor of the Bank of Mozambique, by Bruno Leclerc, AFD Director in Maputo, and by Christian Daziano, French Ambassador in Mozambique.

This financing fits within the framework of the Trade Capacity Building Program (PRCC), specific instrument developed by the French Ministry of Economy, Industry and Employment and AFD. The PRCC aims to support the effective integration of developing countries into world trade.

Through a subsidy of 1.5 million euros, the project aims at strengthening the shrimp farming in the country, sector with a high development potential.

The objective of this 3-year project is to improve the sector’s competitiveness, through supporting both private actors, through the Mozambican Shrimp Producers Association (APCM) and public institutions – as the National Institute for Aquaculture Development, INAQUA, and the National Institute for Seafood Products inspection, INIP.

A technical assistance located within the APCM, but working in close cooperation with the public institutions, will contribute to public/private partnership’s strengthening.
