Small-Scale Initiatives PROGRAMME
French Global Environment Facility (FFEM)
November 23rd, 2009

The French Global Environment Facility (FFEM), in partnership with the French Committee of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (UICN-CF), has launched a second phase of the Small-Scale Initiatives Programme (PPI) for the 2009-2011 period.

This Programme aims to strengthen the contribution of civil society to the conservation of the Environment by funding local projects. By Environment is meant the protection of biodiversity and actions to minimise climate change, whilst improving the living standards of the local populations of these countries.

During the past two years, the first phase of the PPI programme funded 56 projects, of 35.000 euros per project on average, in 20 countries, for the implementation of several actions: creation of conservation areas or community game reserves, development of eco-tourism activities, scientific monitoring of some species, urban waste promotion, essential oil extraction, etc. Each project has an original background, responds to the field reality and is the answer of African civil society commitment towards environment preservation.

For this second phase of the PPI programme, about 50 projects will be funded by the Programme for the profit of African civil society organisations: local NGOs, local authorities, Small and Medium Enterprises, International NGOs in partnership with strengthening local NGOs.

From July 2009 to July 2011, four calls for proposals will be launched, with 10 to 15 of the best projects funded on each round. Each project can receive up to 50 000 euros. This will cover at the most 50% to 75% of the total cost of the project.

Please find attached all the information about the program, dates for next call for proposals, programme rules and criteria and application form (in French and English version).
