Concentration sectors

AFD’s new interventions in its three concentration sectors: education, health and urban development, aim to pursue actions already undertaken in projects nearing completion. The objective is to reduce poverty in Djibouti in line with the PRSP (Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper). The direct targets are:

A strategy hinged on the main orientations and issues of France’s ODA and the strategic priorities of Djibouti and other partners

AFD’s strategy hinges firmly on the main orientations of France’s ODA since all three concentration sectors match both the focus on poverty reduction and the three concentration sectors defined by the Framework Partnership Document (FPD). This strategy also promotes a core public good by focussing AFD interventions in the health sector on combating AIDS.

Contribution to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

AFD interventions in the education sector fall within the framework of the second MDG which targets Universal Primary Education and MDG 3 for all children to have access to this education by 2015. They also match MDG 3 on gender equality and MDG 4 to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education.

Expected outcomes in AFD sectors

Our activity in Djibouti is currently mainly based on three concentration sectors for France’s ODA as defined in the Framework Partnership Document (FPD) signed between the Republic of Djibouti and France in early 2006, i.e. education, health and urban infrastructure.
