Helping African countries achieve the Millennium Development Goals
According to the United Nations report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) published in 2007, one billion people still live on less than one dollar per day. Nearly half of them lives in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In order to meet the basic needs of the planet’s poorest countries, the international community pledged to increase aid with the Millennium Goals. The AFD dedicates more than 50% of its funding for Africa to achieving them (535 million euros).
Within this framework, the AFD has several priorities:
The “Millennium Declaration” adopted by the UN General Assembly on 8 September 2000 sets eight goals to end poverty and its consequences by 2015. The “Eight Times Yes” campaign makes a mid-term review on progress achieved and efforts still to be made. <The “Eight Times Yes” campaign>
