The French Development Agency (AFD) and Eduardo Mondlane University's (UEM) Centre of Economics and Management Studies (CEEG) co-organized last July, 16th and 17th, in Maputo, a training seminar on environmental economics. The seminar aimed at providing Mozambican economists and specialists' with technical knowledge on environmental economics, in particular on the innovative concept of "genuine saving", nowadays internationally considered as one of the main tool to assess one's country wealth and economic growth's sustainability. A meeting between the Minister for the Coordination of Environmental Action (MICOA) and Partners involved in the sector took place in Maputo, the 2nd of April 2009, within the framework of the Joint Review process held annually between the Government and the 19 donors of the general budget support (G19). The Annual Joint Review process is a unique moment for dialogue and discussions aiming to assess the Government and Partners' performances in the previous year (2008) and to identify main challenges for the forthcoming year (2009) and further. On the 2nd of January, 2009, AFD approved a € 1.5 M financing to support the development of the shrimp aquaculture sector in Mozambique. The project is part of the Trade capacity building Program (PRCC), a programme which is co-financed by the Treasury and Economic Policy Directorate General (DGTPE) of the French Ministry of Economy, Finances and Industry and implemented by the French Development Agency (AFD). It aims at building trade capacity in developing countries for them to be better integrated into world trade. More information
