A mandate focusing on climate

The Agence Française de Développement has been mandated by the French Government to operate in emerging countries in favor of projects contributing to a better management of "global public goods".

Operations will focus on three priorities:
  • climate change
  • biodiversity
  • emerging and transmissible diseases

Cross-cutting these three global public goods, AFD will support Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in order to give economic actors incentives to improve their social and environmental performance beyond regulatory requirements.

Financing tools

AFD can provide sovereign financing (loans to the State or with a State guarantee) or non-sovereign financing (local authorities, public or private enterprises) through long-term loans (directly or through the banking system) including a grace period, guarantees or equity financing.

PROPARCO, AFD’s subsidiary dedicated to the private sector, can also provide a full range of financial products to private companies.
