    Health, a fundamental right

    Basic rights for each individual, the rights to education and health are at the heart of the Millennium Goals.  New areas of expertise for the AFD, the financing they receive is constantly increasing.  In most cases, this financing includes technical assistance. 

    In the area of health, promoting maternal and child health and the fight against AIDS are the main priorities.  The AFD works in conjunction with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.  It provides institutional and technical support to organizations in charge of implementing the Global Fund’s programmes in beneficiary countries.  Broadly speaking, its actions seek to strengthen local health systems: reforming hospitals, developing health insurance and providing better access to medicine.
