This volume comprises a collection of 8 papers which were originally presented at the Fifth Urban Research Symposium, co-organized by the World Bank, the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing (MEDDTL) and the French Development Agency (AFD) in Marseilles, in 2009.

he selected papers included in this joint World Bank-MEDDTL-AFD publication combine robust analytical pieces and theoretical insights, with case studies from Europe, North-America as well as developing and emerging countries. In addressing both climate change mitigation and adaptation issues, this volume will prove useful to decision-makers and researchers worldwide.
