Newsletter available in French
The quarterly Newsletter of the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank (PNoWB) is now available in French for the first time thanks to support from Agence française de développement. This 24-page issue focuses on the response to the global economic and financial crisis. It is distributed to the network’s 1 800 members which include over 800 parliamentarians in 110 countries. Hugh Bailey (Irish Network Chair) wanted this second issue to give several partners (including Jean Michel SEVERINO) the opportunity to share their views on the response to the economic and financial crisis.
Parliamentary Network on the World Bank
The PNoWB was founded in May 2000 and has since grown into a fully-fledged organization. Its role is to mobilize parliamentarians in the fight against global poverty, promote transparency and accountability in international development and offer a platform for policy dialogue between the World Bank and parliamentarians. PNoWB enjoys a privileged access to World Bank services and many of its activities are organized in partnership with them: this is the case for its Annual Conference and Field Visit Program.
The PNoWB is governed by a Board composed of nine members elected by their peers and is a non-governmental organization regulated by French law. It has staff in Nairobi and Paris and Chapters in various countries and regions: India, Japan, Liberia, East Africa, West Africa, Middle East and North Africa (Arab Chapter). PNoWB membership is open to parliamentarians from World Bank member States who represent themselves and their constituents within the organization, but not their countries, parliaments or governments.
