Olivier CHARNOZ

Profile

  • Dr. Olivier Charnoz is an interdisciplinary scholar in the Social Sciences. On joining the AFD in 2002, he worked with its Chief Economist and later with its CEO, Jean-Michel Severino, within a long-term collaboration leading to a series of publications. In late 2007, he joined the Research Department of the AFD to lead an international research program studying five countries: China, India, Brazil, Indonesia and a Caribbean island (St. Lucia). This programme looks at the international impact and consequences of local dynamics of actors, interests and power games. Among the "global public goods" Dr. Charnoz studies in this "micro" and "bottom-up” fashion, the protection of biodiversity, the fight against emerging diseases and the reduction of carbon emissions particularly stand out (notably the local politics and economics of energy efficiency policies).

Dr. Charnoz is an alumnus of the Ecole Normale Superieure, the University of Chicago, the University Paris Sorbonne and Paris Dauphine. He has graduated in econometrics, sociology, management sciences and philosophy. He also holds a PhD political science (International Relations) from the London School of Economics (LSE). He is a visiting fellow at the Center for the Study of Global Governance of the LSE (LSE Global Governance) and also teaches at Sciences Po Paris (Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris).
