The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and its partners will be in Brussels on June 18th-19h for the European Development Days (EDD). Organised by the European Commission, the EDD bring the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. EDD 2019's overarching title is "Addressing inequalities: building a world which leaves no one behind".
On June 18th, AFD will organize a high level panel event : "Finding the path towards an inclusive and green transition leaving no one behind". More information below.

High Level Session: Finding the path towards an inclusive and green transition leaving no one behind
June 19th, 9:30 AM - 11AM

How to build on the Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement to promote an ecological and energetic transition leaving no one behind? How to promote triple-win solutions for climate, biodiversity and the fight against inequality? Climate impacts are a multiplier of inequalities which in return affect access to natural resources. Approaching environmental issues from the angle of inequality to promote fair, sustainable uses of natural resources helps address the root causes of environmental degradation and build resilience.

This panel will present best practices from a wide range of stakeholders to raise the issue of biodiversity erosion on the international agenda by 2020. It will bring forward concrete and innovative solutions for climate, biodiversity, and social and environmental justice, with a special focus on rural areas.

Jean-Paul Moatti, French National Research Institute for Development (IRD) Chairman & Executive Director, will moderate the discussion with:

  • Bertrand Walckenaer, Agence Française de Développement (AFD), Associate Chief Executive Officer
  • Christian Leffler, European External Action Service (EEAS), Deputy Secretary-General
  • Carin Jämtin, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Director-General
  • Paul Currie, Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Chief Investment Officer
