The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) was rewarded for its investment in MOOCs, online degree training courses, on Wednesday 30 January at the third edition of the “MOOC of the Year” competition, organized by the platform My MOOC, an authority in this field.
“Transitions in energy and ecology in Southern countries”, the MOOC produced by AFD in partnership with Ecole Normale Supérieure, was awarded the prize for the most international training programme.
This six-week online course, which is free and accessible to all, looks at the theme of energy and ecology transitions from various perspectives, including macro-economic and financial aspects, with a focus on the least developed countries. It offers views from several specialists–both academic and professional–through over 30 videos and several practical exercises. The course, which ran from 15 October to 23 November 2018, brought together nearly 200 active participants on the Coursera platform where it was hosted.
“There is an urgent need to restore a different type of connection with nature, to pay attention to the reality of resources and the way the biosphere functions,” explain Sarah Marniesse, head of the Development Campus at AFD, and Gilles Kleitz, director of the Natural ecological transition and resource management department (read the full interview on our ID4D blog).
The MOOC “Transitions in energy and ecology in Southern countries” will be offered again in 2019. The MOOC “Sustainable development goals: taking on the challenge, together!” produced by the Université Virtuelle Environnement et Développement Durable (UVED), of which AFD is a partner, received the prize for the best MOOC designed by a university.
