Socio-demographer at AFD, Serge Rabier initiates and coordinates research programs on population issues and gender equality-related topics.

Serge Rabier is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and holds a PhD in demography from Sorbonne Paris Cité University. He joined Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in September 2019 as research officer in the Research Department.

After a professional career in the world of banking, consulting and educational engineering in France and Southeast Asia, he oriented his research towards the consideration and integration of gender in public policies - with a focus on sexual and reproductive rights and population policies as Executive Director of Equilibres & Populations (2001-2015). He then carried out various missions as a gender expert on population policies, in particular for the African Development Bank (2018-2019). Between 2012 and 2018, he worked as associate professor for Masters in Development at Paris Descartes and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne universities. From 2013 to 2019, he was a member of the High Council for Equality between Women and Men, a consultative body that reports to the French Prime Minister.
