In Vietnam, for the “Irrigation” sector, the development of the Ninh Thuan irrigation system was subject to an evaluation in July 2018.
The province of Ninh Thuan, which suffers from extremely dry weather, implemented a plan to develop water resources and extend the irrigation area to 25,000 ha between 2000 and 2015, in order to improve the living conditions of the population and to create the foundations for healthy economic development.
The project was deemed overall relevant, effective and consistent. The AFD funding and technical assistance were considered highly effective. However, the global impact of the project is moderate due to the drought endured at the time. The reservoirs that were set up respond satisfactorily to the demand in water during the wet season, but prove insufficient during the dry season.
