AFD Group and Europe: Together for Sustainable Partnerships

AFD Group and the European Union (EU) are driven by shared convictions. We work together to amplify the impact of our financing on the ground and the effectiveness of development assistance. Our cooperation has grown stronger over time thanks to ongoing dialogue, production of joint studies that contribute to the European exchange of ideas, and cofinancing of joint operations.

AFD has been accredited to manage EU funds since 2008. From 2014 to 2022, we managed more than €3 billion of EU resources to help co-finance 275 projects in 74 countries. This figure rises to around 350 projects if we include those led by Expertise France and Proparco, the other two components of AFD Group.

This brochure presents AFD Group’s partnership with the European Commission. This partnership covers a wide range of sectors, including energy, agriculture, biodiversity, sustainable development, health, and education.

Today, AFD Group is mobilizing to best meet the challenges of the 2021–2027 EU programming and to give a more strategic dimension to its partnership with the European Union.
