Type de Financement
The project, implemented by ABIODES, arises from the need to continue strengthening the agro-ecology value chain in the cities of Maputo and Nampula, focusing on minimal processing/small-scale transformation, valuing the consumption of local and natural products, increasing skills in know-how and improving human nutrition.
Context
ABIODES, in the past has already been working in partnership with relevant stakeholders from public and private sector and will continue to engage them in the current project. These collaborations will be strengthened through a set of project's activities. Thus will be engaged 13 public and private partners/NGOs (2 municipalities – Maputo and Nampula, 3 agriculture directorates, 4 schools/universities, 2 NGO partners, 2 companies)
Description
The project is phase 1 and aims to strengthen the agroecology value chain in the cities of Maputo and Nampula, where there are already some actions promoting agroecological production. The focus will be on minimum processing/small transformations of agroecological and local products. Therefore, the project will train the beneficiaries using the FAP -light methodology (Participatory Agricultural Training) in two cycles for each city, with a view to increasing skills in agro-processing. In addition, the project will strengthen the functioning of two agroecology cooperatives, one in each city, boost commercialization by supporting small initiatives to sell processed agroecological products, using a virtual sales platform and promoting agricultural fairs, as well as increasing knowledge about human nutrition and valuing local products, emphasising coordination with various relevant actors.
Impacts
Tree outcomes are persued in this project:
- 600 Farmers, value adders, traders (350 in Nampula and 250 in Maputo) are strengthened and increase their skills in minimum processing of various local agroecological products;
- Enhanced local access channels for sustainable inputs and agroecological horticultural products;
- Increased visibility of the agroecological chain and consolidated partnerships between public and private actors/NGOs in promoting the agroecological theme.
Abiodes
