How is AFD supporting access to water and sanitation in Georgia?
Published on
In Khashuri, Georgia, access to water and sanitation is a major issue for public health, environmental protection, and quality of life.
For years, a significant share of the population received water intermittently, while sanitation infrastructure was in poor condition and no modern wastewater treatment plant was in place to properly treat sewage.
With the support of the European Union, AFD is supporting the Republic of Georgia in modernizing water and sanitation services in Khashuri. The project focuses on strengthening the water supply system, connecting households, and building appropriate sanitation infrastructure. It aims to ensure a more reliable and continuous service, reduce polluting discharges into the environment, and provide residents with a healthier and safer living environment.
