How is beekeeping boosting women's incomes in Zimbabwe?

Participants received practical training in hive construction and management, hive inspection, honey production and record-keeping, with a focus on sustainable practices and meeting quality and market requirements. By improving production, traceability and management practices, the training supports the transition from traditional beekeeping to more sustainable and commercially viable enterprises. It also contributes to strengthening Zimbabwe’s honey value chain and creating opportunities for producers to access higher-value markets. 

Zimbabwe’s honey sector has significant potential to generate income and employment in rural areas, but limited sector structuring and gaps in production and processing practices have constrained its development and access to higher-value markets. 

Funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and implemented by Expertise France in partnership with Zimbabwe’s national export promotion agency, ZimTrade, the Zim-BEE project aims to strengthen the honey value chain and create sustainable economic opportunities for rural communities, with a particular focus on women and young people.
