The second phase for the “Action for East Jerusalem’s Identity and Resilience” program aims to strengthen Palestinian civil society in East Jerusalem, with a special focus on youth, women and vulnerable populations.

East Jerusalem is geographically and administratively isolated, its residents face economic and social hardships. This projects aims at easing their access to essential services, in first place education, infrastructure and economic opportunities. Civil society organizations are an essential component of the solidarity chain in East Jerusalem. 

According to the French government position on promoting the two-state solution, with Jerusalem as the capital of both countries, the project aims to preserve the Palestinian identity of the eastern part of the city.

This second phase of the support program “Action for East Jerusalem’s Identity and Resilience”, approved in 2020, targets the following objectives: 

  • improving educational, cultural and youth opportunities,
  • supporting vulnerable populations, in particular women in their access to essential services, and
  • civil society capacity building.

The significant needs, the quality of partnership with the project owner, the new ambitions in terms of gender mainstreaming and the inclusion of very small structures led to a renewed investment.

The program aims to strengthen the resilience and well-being of the Palestinian community in East Jerusalem. By targeting youth and vulnerable populations, the program contributes to foster their socio-professional inclusion and strengthen social cohesion. The project will result in a significant increase of the civil society capacity.
