Coastal land subsidence poses significant threats to Africa's coastal communities and ecosystems.
The First West African Regional Workshop on Coastal Land Subsidence aims to build a Subsidence Community of Interest (COI) for the region. The workshop seeks to bring together the COI, local and international experts, and policymakers to share knowledge and experiences, initiate regional discussions on land subsidence, and consolidate the COI for future projects. It will delve into the latest research, share insights, and develop collaborative strategies to mitigate the impacts and ensure sustainable coastal management for future generations.
The event will comprise three academic days (fed by a call for papers), one field trip day to the Volta Delta (on registration), and one open discussion day to formulate recommendations for the public and private sectors to better address political, environmental, economic, and social challenges in coastal development.
