AFD is assisting Côte d’Ivoire with its ambitious rural electrification program by helping connect over a million people. Côte d’Ivoire Energies, the local operator, and AFD wanted to deploy the MAX project to scale up the socioeconomic impact of this electrification. The project has a budget of €4 million from European Union funds delegated to AFD. It is implemented by Expertise France.
MAX facilitates access to electrical equipment and its use by various categories of electricity consumers: public spaces, households and economic operators. This project’s specific objective is to improve the action taken by public authorities to facilitate the acquisition of electrical equipment for individuals and professionals. MAX also helps public authorities provide public infrastructure for electrical equipment.
In addition, this project encourages private operators in distribution chains for electrical equipment to improve the quality of their products and services or expand their service areas. Part of the project budget is earmarked for the allocation of subsidies to private or public operators for the implementation of sub-projects in order to achieve the objectives assigned to MAX.
- Improvement in living conditions for people in the geographical areas targeted by the project
- Improvement in the range of electrical products and related services in the geographical areas targeted by the project, with prospects of expansion further afield
- Creation of synergies with economic and social operators that did not operate in certain areas covered by the project
- Promotion of energy-efficient electrical equipment
This project is carried out with the support of the European Union
