In Egypt, the universal health insurance reform is making steady progress, with its rollout now extended to six governorates, reaching nearly 5 million beneficiaries.
In Ismaïlia, where over 80% of the population is already enrolled, notable improvements are being seen: enhanced quality of care, modernized patient pathways, and stronger healthcare regulation.
Since 2018, the AFD Group has contributed in supporting this structural reform alongside Egyptian authorities, providing €210 million in Public Policy loans, €2 million grant and technical assistance of €1 million led by Expertise France. This support strengthens the governance capacities of national institutions and contributes to more efficient social protection spending.
This joint momentum aims to ensure universal, equitable, and high-quality healthcare access for the entire Egyptian population by 2032.
