AFD is financing the Bengaluru metro project for a total amount of €310 million. A lifeline which is welcomed and enjoyed by Bangaloreans, who face the challenge of traffic jams on a daily basis.
Bengaluru is India’s 3rd largest city, with a population of 13 million people approximately. In the first decade of the 21st century alone, the city grew by 47%. With this population increase came a raise in vehicle traffic.
To help ease the mobility concerns, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) began operations in 2011. ‘Namma Metro’, as it is known, is part of a government masterplan for faster and greener urban transit for citizens. It is operational on 2 lines, across some of the city’s most congested areas.
