Mining and the fight against climate change are inextricably linked. This statement may seem paradoxical, but it is a reality that is still too little known. Renewable energy technologies (solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, electric cars…) are made up of a series of metals produced by the mining industry. According to recent projections by the International Energy Agency (IEA), demand for these "energy transition metals" could experience a six-fold increase in the next two decades to meet the needs of the energy transition.

This webinar will summarize the main results of a recent systematic literature review that seeks to identify the existing knowledge on the main sustainable development impacts of the extraction of the energy transition metals in the Global South.

This event will be held on December 8, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm (CET). Discussions will be held in English.
