This MoU will focus on cooperation and experience sharing in particular between the two institutions, for the Green transition (resilience to climate change, especially in the water sector, carbon accounting and low carbon transition), financing of the Sustainable Development Goals (in line with the international agenda to strengthen and redirect financial flows to SDG objectives) and biodiversity.
DBSA and the AFD Group have been partners for over twenty-five years. The partnership has included collaboration on financing municipalities in South Africa to improve access to drinking water, providing electricity or education, through the construction of new infrastructure.
A regional credit line supports the development of DBSA’s activity in Africa, with preferred focus on climate renewal energy or energy efficiency projects. In addition, AFD and DBSA will collaborate on a platform that supports the preparation of infrastructure projects, and will engage on new discussions regarding possible synergies and/or collaboration around the Infrastructure fund.
In the private sector field, Proparco and DBSA have co-financed projects in a variety of areas including infrastructure development and renewable energy.
DBSA is also an active member of the International Development Finance Club (IDFC), which AFD currently chairs. The IDFC is a leading group of national and regional development banks from all over the world working together to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Paris Climate Agreement agendas.
Patrick Dlamini (CEO DBSA) – “Developing strategic partnerships is integral to the value that the DBSA delivers. We are proud of our collaboration with the AFD and believe that with this MOU, the DBSA will deepen its development impact.”
Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) are strong, longstanding partners in sustainable development and have been collaborating in the infrastructure space since 1994, particularly in the area of municipal financing.
In the private sector field, DBSA has not only been one of Proparco’s shareholders for 20 years, but together Proparco and DBSA have co-financed projects in a variety of areas including infrastructure development and renewable energy.
Gregory Clemente (CEO Proparco) – “Proparco and DBSA share strategic priorities, especially in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors, and we welcome more co-financing opportunities to leverage our partnership”.
