September 30, as part of the "Promotion of Renewable Energy Tenders" (PROLER) initiative under the National Energy for All Programme, the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) is set to award four renewable energy projects. Three of the 30 MW projects are to go to solar power stations in the districts of Dondo, Manje, and Lichinga in Sofala, Tete and Niassa provinces respectively, while the fourth (also around 30 MW) is to be awarded to a wind power station either in Inhambane province or Beira.
With the launch of public tenders for the allocation of renewable-energy production licences, MIREME aims to provide greater transparency and competitiveness in the renewable energy sector, and so attract potential national and international investors.
The development and structuring of renewable energy contracts, supported by co-financing of EUR 37 million from the European Union and the French Development Agency, seek to diversify low-cost, quality energy sources, thus ensuring that renewable energies make a greater contribution to the energy transition and electrification of the whole country.
It is worth noting that Mozambique is a signatory to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and thus the project is aligned with its objective of providing quality, accessible and sustainable energy to all Mozambicans by 2030.
