In Liberia, the inhabitants of Greater Monrovia face the double challenge of living in very difficult conditions (poor access to basic services, no public spaces, damages caused by strong and regular floods) which are worsened by a high vulnerability to the effects of climate change. The CICLIA study assisted the Ministry of Public Works and the Municipalities of Greater Monrovia in defining the Monrovia Integrated Development Project/Liberian Urban Resilience Project (MIDP/LURP) and proposed solutions to improve the resilience of the neighborhoods to climate change. CICLIA is a facility funded by the EU, SECO and AFD that supports more than 35 cities in sub-Saharan Africa in the preparation of low-carbon and resilient urban strategies and projects.
