Alisée Pornet has served as an Advisor to the Geographies Department at Agence Française de Développement (AFD) since 2025. She co-authored , Géopolitique du Développement, with Philippe Orliange, published by Presses Universitaires de France. Her research focuses on the Indo-Pacific, Chinese development policies — particularly the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) — and broader Asian geopolitical issues.
Overview
A geography graduate of the École Normale supérieure de Lyon and Sciences Po, she joined AFD in 2017 in the Asia Department. She was then appointed economist in the Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Division, before heading the Climate and Energy Financing Unit.
She is currently working on the connections between geopolitics and development, and the role of development actors in international relations. She has specialized in China since 2014, focusing on its cooperation policies, particularly the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and its development actors. She also worked for Le Monde newspaper from Shanghai, where she covered social issues in China, before joining the COP21 negotiating team, covering India.
Alisée Pornet has also been teaching development geopolitics and the Indo-Pacific region at Sciences Po Paris since 2023.
