AFD and sustainable urban transport and mobility
published in November 2015
Urban mobility is a core challenge for cities. In order to ensure that development is sustainable, inclusive and economically effective, the challenge lies in limiting the congestion that hinders cities and comes with an increase in air pollution, CO2 emissions and a high road traffic death rate. In fast growing cities in emerging and developing countries, there is a pressing need to improve current transport systems and provide alternative solutions to personal vehicles, solutions with a higher capacity that use less space, emit less carbon and are, at the same time, affordable and tailored to residents’ needs.
