In July 2018, AFD launched one of its largest national level projects – CITIIS (City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain). 100 cities have been shortlisted by the government of India to become the country's next smart cities. Of these 100, 15 cities will be selected at the end of the year through a national challenge that will select the most innovative project proposals across four themes: sustainable mobility, public open spaces, eGovernance and ICT, and social and organizational innovation for low-income settlements. Over the next three years, the final 15 projects will receive funding and technical assistance from the AFD and EU to achieve their vision.
