Dominica is a volcanic island in the Caribbean arc with a population of 70,000. The island currently has an installed capacity of 26.7 MW, of which 77% is fossil fuel and 23% is hydro. The price of electricity is one of the highest in the world and is currently an obstacle to the country's development. However, Dominica has the potential to produce at least 120 MW of geothermal electricity. AFD is thus supporting the construction of a geothermal power plant in Dominica to help boost the country's economy by lowering the cost of electricity.
