In 2021, Agence Française de Développement continued its commitment to the beneficiaries of its projects by handling the complaints received through its Environmental and Social Complaints Mechanism, in a fair and independent way. This year has seen an increase in the number of complaints received (21 in 2021 compared to 14 in 2020). Which projects are concerned? How does AFD respond to them? What challenges and prospects are raised by their processing?
This activity report first presents an overview of the grievances received since the mechanism was created in 2017, then focuses on those processed in 2021. Finally, it assesses its activities in order to draw lessons and prospects.
AFD's Environmental and Social Complaints Mechanism is an out-of-court mechanism that allows any person or group of persons affected from an environmental or social point of view by an AFD-financed project to file a complaint.
