Evaluation Summary - Siem Reap/Angkor Urban development project, Cambodia
Published on

In Cambodia, the Siem Reap/Angkor urban development project was subject to an evaluation in May 2014.
Siem Reap is the second economic center of Cambodia and has to cope with increasing tourist pressure, causing a fast-moving extension of the city. Sanitation, water, drainage and transport infrastructures have not kept the pace of this rapid development. This project aimed at correcting this.
The evaluation highlights the major difficulties encountered during the implementation of the project, but also the interesting results that were achieved, especially in terms of flood reduction in the city extension area. Many delays affected the implementation of both components of the project and the sustainability of the infrastructures is threatened by still missing equipment. Basic tools for managing urban development that could prove very fruitful in the long run were provided during AFD’s interventions
