Two years after the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the health emergency and the priorities to which it has given rise, have gradually given way to structural challenges faced by health and social protection systems. Addressing these challenges is essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In response to the growing number of crises, AFD Group continues to invest in building inclusive and adaptive health and social protection systems for the years to come. And it does so by addressing issues tied to environmental and social concerns. This forms a central plank in our strategy to adapt to the effects of climate change, thus ensuring the safety, health and well-being of populations.
Following two years of exceptionally intense activity in health and social protection in response to the pandemic, 2022 saw a decline in the level of commitment in these sectors, indicating a catching-up of other AFD Group sectors whose activity had been hindered by the crisis. AFD and Proparco committed 422 million euros to the sector in 2022.
