Urban Development and Support for Local Authorities - 2020 Activity Report

AFD provides cities with support for taking up the challenges of urban growth, social and territorial inequalities and territories’ vulnerability. It promotes sustainable cities as a process of design, building and management, working with the authorities in charge of cities, civil society and city dwellers. Its strategic objectives:

• Improving quality of life for city dwellers
• Promoting sustainable urban development within territories
• Strengthening the local actors in charge of the city.

In 2020, AFD committed nearly €1,6 billion to finance projects and programmes to promote sustainable urban development and support
for local authorities.
