In Pakistan, the renovation of the Lahore Fort, a UNESCO heritage site since 1981, promises to improve the living environment of the population, but also to offer them new work opportunities. After several decades of degradation linked to the increase in population, tourism and urban expansion of Lahore, the Pakistani agency Aga Khan Trust for Culture, the government of Punjab, the World Bank, and the Walled City of Lahore Authority laid, in 2007, the first milestones of a partnership for the restoration of the fort. In 2022, the French Development Agency in turn becomes the financier of this project which also includes the repair of roads and the improvement of lighting. This comprehensive approach will benefit the residents of Lahore and tourists.
