East Africa, like the rest of the continent, is currently facing increasingly complex social and environmental dilemmas. Faced with these challenges, the commons is an interesting approach, as it experiments with diverse solutions to the collective action dilemmas it encounters.
Through definitions and concrete examples, AFD researcher Stéphanie Leyronas explains the potential of this concept in the region. This video was shot to mark the release of the book she co-authored with French economist Benjamin Coriat and Togolese economist and politician Kako Nubukpo: "The Commons: Drivers of Change and Opportunities for Africa".
