- THE CONFERENCE
- OUR PARTNERS
Are you an academic, an activist, a policymaker, or an opinion leader? Would you like to help identify both the strategic dilemmas of a just transition and the policy solutions?
Join us at the international conference on Inequality, Work, and Nature for an interactive and innovative dialogue on resilient responses to climate change in line with a just transition within the framework of sustainable economies.
This conference is part of the research partnership between AFD and the European Union. Between 2017 and 2021, the first phase of the EU-AFD Research Facility on Inequalities developed more than 20 policy-oriented research projects in over 30 countries aiming to identify drivers, trends and policy levers for addressing inequality. In its second phase, it is focusing on four countries – South Africa, Colombia, Indonesia and Mexico – to study the interactions between inequality, environmental change and sustainability, with the aim of supporting governments in designing policy actions to meet these inter-dependent challenges.
The conference is a collaboration between the South African Presidency, the European Commission, the Agence Française de Développement, and the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research hosted by the University of Cape Town. The conference takes place at the UCT Graduate School of Business in Cape Town, South Africa, from 8 – 9 November 2023; selected sessions will be livestreamed. To access the live stream, click here.
DAY 1 of the conference showcases research on the strategic dilemmas that appear when designing long-term development trajectories that are both ecologically and socially sustainable.
DAY 2 engages high-level government officials and practitioners especially from the Global South to deliberate on specific and meaningful concessions aimed at shaping policy solutions.
Registration is not required for online participants. Don't forget to add the event to your calendar, so that you don't have to search for the access link on the day of the conference.
Warning: Please note that all conference schedules are expressed in South African time.
