#Sport4SD

Launched by French President Emmanuel Macron and the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, the ‘Sport for Sustainable Development - Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together for a Better Future’ Summit will take place on 25 July at the Carrousel du Louvre in central Paris.

The Summit will bring together more than 500 participants: heads of state and government, leaders of international organizations, athletes and representatives of the sports movement (French and International Federations, Olympic Movement, civil society organizations and entrepreneurs), and actors in the field of sports and development financing.

The goal of this gathering is to mobilize around the conviction that sport is an accelerator of sustainable development for future generations. It aims to set sports activities on a new trajectory, ensuring that they are focused on legacy, impact, and sustainability.

Not only will sports be increasingly aligned with social impacts in areas of health, nutrition, education, inclusion and equality. They will also play a role in matters of solidarity, sustainable investment, and environmental awareness, particularly in sports infrastructure and the drive to decarbonize major sporting events.

On the occasion of the Sport for Sustainable Development Summit, governments, international organizations, sport movement, civil society and private and financial actors are invited to support the Paris Agreement for Sport and Sustainable Development, composed of 10 commitments.

The Summit will take place in a hybrid format. Participation in person is subject to invitation by the organizers. Sequences will be simultaneously translated and broadcasted into English and French.

The Summit will take place in three phases:

1. An opening sequence, featuring contributions from the International Olympic Committee and the United Nations, will present the purpose and spirit of this Summit, reflecting the flagship initiatives of the legacy of the Paris 2024 Games. The S4SD Summit is part of a series of international events, including the Paris Pact for People and Planet, the Summit of the Future and the Nutrition for Growth Summit.

2. A themed sequence, with five focus areas:

  • Education and employment, to ensure that all students around the world have access to sport and to promote employability and skills acquisition through sport;
  • Health and nutrition, to reduce the prevalence of physical inactivity by 15% by 2030 and improve the health, nutrition and well-being of individuals;
  • Equality and inclusion, to make physical activity and sport accessible to everyone;
  • Financing and impact measurement, to unleash the full potential of sport by mobilizing investments and measuring impacts with the Finance in Common coalition;
  • Sustainability and heritage, to organize more sustainable and responsible sport events aligned with the Paris Climate Agreement.

3. A closing sequence, focused on the next international sports and political events and including strong commitments made by heads of state and government, the sports movement, international organizations and entities from around the world.

The detailed program and list of confirmed speakers will be announced at a later date.
