According to a 2021 OECD report, two-thirds of African cities are at “extreme” risk of climate and water-related shocks. Nature-based solutions (NbS), which rely on natural ecosystems and the services they provide to human activities, address these urban challenges, while simultaneously providing benefits. How can cities integrate NbS into urban planning processes and decision support tools available to planners? What steps need to be taken to enable experimentation and demonstration?
With its partners and in the framework of AFD’s ECOPRONAT Program, WRI developed a strategic framework to enable the deployment and scaling-up of NbS. This methodology aims to improve the resilience of cities by helping them identify the risks they must prepare for, to assess the potential forNbS to address those risks, and strategies for implementation . The two pilot cities for the development of this framework are Addis Ababa and Kigali. This webinar will present in detail this research project and its results.
