Blue Carbon Facility: financing the protection and restoration of marine ecosystems

The Blue Carbon Facility is a program that supports the protection of "blue" carbon (the carbon captured and stored by coastal and marine ecosystems) through pilot projects focused on strengthening knowledge, innovative financing, and public policy.
Objectives
Protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems by supporting pilot projects in one of the following areas:
- Testing innovative financing mechanisms such as carbon markets and payments for ecosystem services
- Strengthening scientific knowledge, including mapping, monitoring, and carbon stock estimation
- Supporting the integration of blue carbon into public policy and providing guidance to local stakeholders
- Mobilizing sustainable financing and sharing results to strengthen advocacy for fair and inclusive blue finance

- Field activities focused on restoring coastal ecosystems
- Development of carbon finance or payments for ecosystem services
- Strengthening public policies and institutional capacity
- Scientific research and the dissemination of results
