What are the effects of the degradation of nature on the financial system and the economy? How can they be assessed? AFD researchers and their partners have developed a methodology to identify the economic sectors that are most exposed to biodiversity loss. This analysis has been tested in South Africa, and policymakers can now use it to inform decisions in order to limit nature-related economic risks. The analysis also makes it possible to identify the economic sectors that would benefit from an improvement in biodiversity status. This approach helps to reintegrate nature into the economic and financial spheres, which contributes to building nature-positive development trajectories.
