Local CSOs
AFD offers several mechanisms to support local civil society organizations (CSOs), primarily by issuing calls for expressions of interest (AMI) and the CSO Initiatives Facility (I-OSC). AFD provides substantial financial support subject to strict eligibility criteria and prior experience. Special attention is given to innovative and large-scale projects for local civil society.

CSO Initiatives Facility
Accessible via calls for expressions of interest, the CSO Initiatives Facility provides funding for projects led by civil society organizations governed by French or local law.

The Fund for Innovation in Development (FID)
The Fund for Innovation in Development (FID) finances solutions with high potential impact to reduce poverty and inequality in low- and middle-income countries. The mechanism relies on a rigorous assessment of project effectiveness and aims to speed up large-scale deployment.

The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM)
The French Facility for Global Environment (FFEM) finances innovative projects that address major global environmental challenges. Financing is concentrated on five priorities: biodiversity, climate, sustainable regional management, aquatic ecosystem resilience, and efforts to fight pollution.

The Minka Peace and Resilience Fund
The Minka Peace and Resilience Fund, which supports peace-building activities in fragile and conflict-affected states and crisis contexts, funds projects in four crisis zones (the Sahel, the area around Lake Chad, the Central African Republic, and the Middle East).

Support Fund for Feminist Organizations (FSOF)
As part of France’s feminist diplomacy, the Support Fund for Feminist Organizations (FSOF) helps feminist organizations operating in AFD partner countries.

Calls for proposals and tenders
In addition to specific financing mechanisms, AFD and Expertise France issue calls for proposals and tenders throughout the year. Submit your proposal as a project leader or apply directly to a call for tenders issued by recipients of AFD funding.

L'initiative
The AFD Group subsidiary Expertise France operates L’Initiative. Associated with the Global Fund, this facility finances projects and mobilizes skills to accelerate efforts to fight major pandemics and improve access to quality health services in eligible countries.

Fund for Technical Expertise and Experience Transfers (FEXTE)
The Fund for Technical Expertise and Experience Transfers (FEXTE) finances technical expertise through feasibility studies and project preparation support.

Kiwa Initiative
The Kiwa Initiative aims to strengthen the adaptation of the Pacific territories and better protect their biodiversity by supporting projects that promote nature-based solutions via grants and technical assistance.
