The AFD Group and the Mediterranean

In a regional context marked by increasing environmental pressures, the Mediterranean faces major challenges such as pollution, overfishing, and water stress. To protect this unique ecosystem, the AFD Group and the FFEM support projects led by its three regional divisions — North Africa, the Middle East, and the European Neighbourhood — in partnership with local authorities, the European Union, and regional stakeholders.

Through these initiatives, AFD strengthens the resilience of Mediterranean territories and promotes the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources, while encouraging regional cooperation. Marine space governance, sustainable fishing, climate change adaptation, and improved water management are among the concrete actions that reflect the Group’s commitment to a sustainable and inclusive Mediterranean.

Produced in the lead-up to the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 2025), and through emblematic projects, this video highlights AFD Group’s contribution to the protection of this universal common good.
