Committed to a development reconciled with nature and building on over 20 years of action for biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable agriculture, green cities and a blue economy, AFD Group aims to increase its biodiversity or nature-positive finance to €1 billion a year by 2025 and devote 30 % of its climate finance to biodiversity-friendly operations, in line with the commitments made by France.
In 2021, AFD’s commitments dedicated to biodiversity stood at €589 million, i.e. 5.2 % of total commitments. They have risen by 4.3% compared to 2020 and by almost 90% since 2017. Commitments dedicated to the preservation of nature (DAC 2) amounted to €98 million and €491 million went to sectoral pro-nature projects (DAC 1, for example, biodiversity in cities, agroecology, sustainable sectors).
33 % of climate finance has benefits for nature.
