The digital commons – including thousands of standards and tools for open hardware, data, software and content – play a vital role in the development of many of the world’s most impactful collective intelligence projects, but they attract little attention. Greater consideration of these digital common goods in the design of projects by donors would allow faster achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with better ownership of populations.
AFD has worked with the Centre for Collective Intelligence design at Nesta on this project, which explores the benefits of investing in the development of the collective intelligence commons.
