With over 3,200 km of coastline, Vietnam faces the risks of extreme weather events, from floods and typhoons to drought, storms and coastal erosion. Similarly, deforestation is threatening biodiversity and damaging mangrove forests, which provide natural protection against rising sea levels and help reduce CO2 emissions.

Moreover, Vietnam's economy is still highly dependent on carbon, with 42% of the country’s electricity production capacity comes from coal-fired power stations.
